Recently I have realized that I have been more than willing to eagerly expose myself to movies and music that are not honoring to God. How can I and many other Christians enjoy entertainment that is so counter to God and gratuitously uses His and His Son's name in vain and blasphemy? Earlier this evening I was reading comments on a forum thread at crosswalk.com and I could not believe the rave reviews and positive comments Christians were making concerning a very dark(evil) movie, The Dark Knight. I am one who can be easily drawn to such movies that are very action packed and exciting and think nothing wrong with the offensive material included like blasphemies and other in appropriate content. It seems to be completely hypocritical for us to call ourselves Christians and eagerly seek out such anti-Christian entertainment. It used to be shocking when some one took the Lord's name in vain and was never done on the "big screen" or in other forms of entertainmnet. Today, a Christian will sit and watch PG,PG-13, and R rated movies with gratutitous violence, sexual content and blasphemies and think nothing of it. We, as Christians are held to a higher standard by our Lord and I for one am ashamed of what I have exposed myself and my family to. I encourage and exhort my brothers and sisters to be more selective in choosing their entertainment and ask themselves if this movie or song or book would be one they would recommend to Jesus. When you ask yourself that question it really causes you to stop and take your Christianity seriously. There are plenty of alternatives to the offensive garbage the secular entertainment industry is putting out, but even if there weren't, let us do more to honor God our Father in ALL that we do.
